Ascent Trip ReportWe arrived at parking lot at the bottom of the road to the summit around 10:00. We couldn't find the trail so we hiked up the closed road. Along the way up we had some stunning views, around 5000' we came into some low lying clouds. Toward the summit parking lot we came out of the clouds. We took a short break & pushed onto the summit trail. We reached the summit 15:15. We spent 20 minutes on the summit looking down at the clouds & a few 6000 footers poking through. Then we walked half a mile into the Appalachian Trail & set up camp. It was a little colder today than yesterday at Brasstown Bald. This was the first use of my Mountain Hardwear 2 person tent. It worked amazingly, has a lot of head room & vestibule space. The tent was set up by 16:30 & we were eating dinner by 17:30. We played cards after dinner then went to sleep shortly after that. We woke up around 7:00, packed the camp up & started hiking around 8:00. The water we left in the vestibule overnight froze. We got back to the parking lot just before 12:00. |
