Ascent Trip Report

4,573m. Did the hike from the lower entrance hut where there is a building, gate and a guard...we went x country for half a k until your back out on the road (you cut off the corner). Turn left then after about 30m or so you see a fence going through the woods on the right. Follow this fence steeply up hill, the fence goes 90 right after 5-600m, turn with it and go to the end of the fence about another 5-600m. Turn left here and simply follow an obvious rocky ridge for a good k and a half. This is a safe non hands on ridge. The ridge phases out and then you continue on a gravel crest until you come to the road again. You now come to buildings and observatory towers. Simply follow the road to the closed entrance to the massive parabolic dish at the summit (you will not get in). You are now as high as you can get. To go back down simply follow the road. Total distance is 9.67k, height gain 751m. Our time up 2hrs. Total time up and down 3hrs 15min. Recorded on a Garmin fenix 2. The route is easy and if all else fails follow the road. Beautiful view of Orizaba and surrounding hills. Summit is obviously clogged up with dishes and antennae.
