Ascent of Margies Peak on 2014-12-21
|Date:||Sunday, December 21, 2014|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||2493 ft / 759 m|
Ascent Trip ReportParked and camped directly south of the peak. I ascended a subridge that comes off the main ridge two bumps to the right (east) of the summit. Once on the main ridge, I worked my way through the rocks to the top. Ascent took about two hours, descent about 90 minutes.
The going is very rocky but not too brushy. There are batches of cholla that must be avoided. It was steep, but at no time did I encounter cliffs. The most challenging climbing was some low-level scrambling near the top.
The best advice I can give would be to always stay high on all ridge crests. The rocks are usually very solid and there always seemed to be a route through. Dropping to the sides generally leads to looser terrain. A good nose for route finding will help, but most desert-peak scramblers should have no problem with this peak.
