Ascent Trip ReportIn December 2014, the road beyond the 4.2 mile bridge wasn't passable to a 2WD vehicle with normal clearance due to some unconsolidated gravel that was recently laid down. A later trip report indicated that conditions had improved.
Driving only a Toyota Echo, I was forced to park at the bridge. Turns out the road hike isn't bad, and I reached the summit of Rogers in 1:32 from the bridge (5.8 miles one way). Unclear why one would need a GPS for this hike; just follow the road up, taking the higher branch of well-maintained road where there's a choice. Definitely do take the "ATV trail" up to the summit; this is maybe a few hundred yards longer and quite a bit quicker than bushwhacking the SW side. I was surprised to see quite a bit of beargrass in the summit clearing- the furthest south, furthest west, and lowest elevation at which I have ever seen this amazing plant. |
