Ascent Trip Report

Parked our car at the Phelps Trail on Oblong Rd in Williamstown. The hike up Phelps seemed much longer than the 1.5 miles advertised at the trailhead. There were no maps in the map box available but we came prepared with printed maps. The Phelps Trail was frozen and the upper half covered in snow. At times it reminded me of the Hopper Trail on Greylock on the opposite side of the valley.

We hanged right (north) on the Taconic Crest and went over Misery Mountain. The TCT had a good two inches of snow in most places and heavily covered by foliage. We ran up Berlin Mountain and tagged the summit where we enjoyed PB&J sandwiches with our dog and took a few pictures. Great views east towards Greylock/Fitch/Williams.

Headed back down to the col between Berlin and Misery and back up the latter. Great views to the west towards the Hudson Valley and Catskills. We took a left on Phelps and back to our car. 2.5 hours up and 2 hours down.
