Ascent Trip ReportTokaloo Rock, Andrew and Aurora—Saturday & Sunday. The Westside gate was still open and free of snow to the St Andrews Creek TH. We rode mountain bikes; one with a bob trailer making travel much easier. The road was in very good condition although a handful of icy sheets across the road force you to travel on the shoulders. We left the car at 10 a.m. and arrived at St Andrews Lake at about 2 p.m. With daylight already dwindling we quickly set up our tent on a snow covered bench above the lake and ditched extra gear. We summited Tokaloo at 6 p.m. There was hard steep snow/ice to navigate going around the spire and up the ridge. The area beneath Tokaloo Rock to its west was covered with snow, and steep, although you could stay close to the rock in a moat like feature part of the way. It was dark by now and could not see the run out but imagined there wasn’t much. We carefully descended retracing our steps to the broad gulley east of Andrew. We ascended through first large boulders and then smaller to the ridge north of the summit. Despite the clear night and great views of the city lights we didn’t stick around—temps were estimated to be down to 20 and there was a breeze on the ridge/summits. Back to camp for dinner and sleep. Next morning we tore down camp and headed out, going up the partially snow covered trail to Aurora on its SW flank. Back to cars in time to catch the last 10 minutes of the Seahawk game in Ashford.
