Ascent Trip ReportBob Schwwab's TR still applies, this report aims to add/update some information and is not a stand alone report. One must read Schwab.
This county has 8 candidate high point areas, I visited all of them and concluded that 2 of them (2 & 4) could/should be eliminated as candidates.
AREA 1 & 2 ..... .4 miles RT.
I approached from the east side, starting at Smokey Road. I walked west along the south side fence line of the Transportation Company, an animal path in a fallow/grass field, 350 yards directly to the high ground of AREA 1 ... located west of the north-south fence line with scrub brush. The old fence is broken in a number of places, I just stepped over it. I chose my HP at 15 yards west of the fence line in a harvested corn field (40.27482,-83.52315).
AREA 2 is inside the fenced-in Transportation Company, clearly at a lower elevation than Area 1 and it need not be visited (I didn't).
AREA 3 & 4 .... .9 miles, 35 minute RT.
I approached from the east, we parked on Perkins Road, under the Overhead Power Transmission Line.
I walked/followed the Power Line west 600 yards directly to AREA 3 (grass field the first half, harvested bean field for the second half). The high ground is located 70 yards past a very small clump of brush/trees, and 100+ yards south of the Power Line. I chose my spot at 40.37185,-83.53331.
AREA 4 is located 200 yards further west at a clear/lower elevation, and it need not be visited.
AREA 5, 6, 7, & 8 ..... 1 mile, 45 minutes RT for all 4 areas.
From the Overhead Power Transmission Line on Perkins Road we drove north .3 miles and parked, this was my TH for all of these areas. Both sides of the road had a harvested bean field (yet to be plowed), so it was really easy going.
I first went east 400 yards to AREA 6 and chose my spot at 40.37435,-83.52159, then northerly 150 yards to AREA 5 at 40.37556,-83.52101.
I returned to the road and continued west 250 yards to AREA 7, picking my spot at 40.37647,-83.52805, then north 100 yards to AREA 8 at 40.37723,-83.52811.
2 dogs followed me throughout this hike.
NB: This county must be done after the harvest ..... very easy and with no evidence of access issues.
