Ascent Trip Report

On a clear day this summit offers great views. This was not that day. Visibility was 100 yards at most. Winds were consistently 40+ mph with gusts of 60+ mph. The rain came in sideways.

We received permission to hike to the FAA facility from Brian Wellman. The road was open since it was hunting season. Unfortunately the main road was closed due to logging operations about 3 miles from the gate. There were roads going both right and left at this point. We guessed that the road to the right was the one we needed. We were wrong. We spent about 90 minutes trying every road in this direction. None of them worked. We eventually worked our way back to the point of the closure. We then tried going left and quickly realized that this was the correct way.

The road from the gate was simple to follow. The hike was non-eventful other than the occasional gust of wind that pushed us around. On the way out we attempted to head north in order to check conditions at the Lincoln County High Point. Unfortunately our DeLorme map and phone based GPS wasn't much help and we eventually gave up on this approach and headed out through Falls City. I wouldn't advise leaving through the north unless you are familiar with the area.
