Ascent Trip Report

First peak on this trip.

I'll never forget the first time I saw Cache Peak: it was on the way up to Jackson Peak, and I gazed to the east and saw a massive and beautiful emerald castle, full of turrets and towers and beautiful grassy slopes with stream-filled valley moats surrounding it. It immediately went on my life list.

Then I learned it was Gros Peak I was looking at. (Interestingly enough, a similar thing happened to the legendary Tom Turiano in his early days of mountaineering.) But I still wanted to do Cache.

Planning our epic Gros Ventre week, this was an easy one to bag on the way, and I was glad to do it. We started from Cache Creek TH the evening before, hiked in about 8 miles on the Highline Trail, camped, and then hiked up to the Pass the next day.

Great views of Gros and the whole Cache Canyon drainage. Essentially just dropped our bags and brought a water bottle and breakfast and bushwacked to the top from Cache Pass.
