Ascent Trip Report

Drove past the trail head for Cahuilla (pronounced Ca-we-ha according to a local). The road isn't too rough, but not great for a regular car. Parked as stated in the SC's directions. Trail head is across the dirt road maked by a sign. The use trail is pretty good--keep hiking until the trail runs out at the mountain. There is a higher mountain ahead, but no trail to be seen. We were at the correct mileage and elevation, but there is no register or can (someone please take one) or benchmark that we could see.

On the way there, I saw a Red Diamond Rattler (non-aggressive species according to online information). It saw me, turned around and went back under a flat boulder. It had just shed its skin, which was also next to the boulder. Cool snake!

From OC, went through Temecular to the 79 for about 18 miles, then left on the 371, passed the casino; Cary Road is just past the Casino.

There were two school buses at the Casino--high school career day in the Inland Empire???
