Ascent Trip Report

Little Bear (21D)(8X), Delamar (21E)(7X),
Bertha (21G)(7X)
Scheduled hike with Mars and Pat Vaughn as co-leaders. Joining us was Bruce Craig, Gary Bowen, Bill Ossa and Lois Richie.
We started with Little Bear, following Rt. 1. You can’t drive in as far as the peak guide suggests, so the hike was a little longer. It was a little confusing at first. About 100 feet after starting, a road goes off to the right. If you look ahead, you will see a gate saying road closed. This is the road you want. Just follow the road to the peak, going around or over several small bumps on the way out.
For Delamar, continue north on 3N12 to the parking spot. This is where the PCT crosses the road. Start up the cat trail for about 200 yards to where it plateaus. Pick up a use trail at this point. Follow the use trail, crosses a road, continue up the use trail to the old jeep road mention in the peak guide. Follow this road to the peak.
For Bertha, continue north on 3N12 to 3N16 to 2N09 (where the turnoff for Arctic). Turn right, go south on 2N09 to the point where the PCT crosses the road. It’s where the road goes up a little incline and does a sharp turn to the left, then a sharp turn to the right. Parking is limited to about 2-3 cars. Follow PCT to where it crosses a road. Turn left on the road and follow it to the peak, crossing the PCT again. On the way back, we went back the PCT at the second crossing. It’s a little longer, but trail is better than road.
