Ascent Trip Report

Beautiful blue sky fall day, temperature around 40 when we started at 9:30, and in the lower 50s when we got back to the car. The foliage was great with vibrant reds, greens, and yellows everywhere.

We started off on the wrong path, that leads closer to the summit of Mount Raimer. This was not a bad choice as the Taconic Crest Trail is very steep and slippery because of the leaves. The path we took converges onto the TCT right after Mount Raimer.

Once beyond Mount Raimer, the trail dips down to Berlin Pass before going up to Berlin Mountain. The trail is wide and well maintained. The TCT has blue blazes that are easy to follow. The landscape is nice with lots of birch low plants.
Summit is large open grassy circle. Views to the east are great and include views of Mount Greylock, lots of windmills, and southern Vermont. There are some limited views to the west.

On our way down we followed the TCT to the parking lot. The last half mile is steap and slippery, but we made it down ok with our hiking poles.

Met 1 person on the way up just outside of the parking lot, and several in the second half of the way back. Parking lot had quite a few cars by 1pm.
