Ascent of Kaaterskill High Peak on 2008-10-04Date: | Saturday, October 4, 2008 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Kaaterskill High Peak | Location: | USA-New York | Elevation: | 3655 ft / 1114 m |
Ascent Trip ReportVery muddy, slowed me down. Tons of hikers on the long trail today but saw none on the upper loop unmaintained trail, great foliage, great weather. Saw airplane wreckage while going south on the upper snowmobile loop heading toward the 'twilight park trail '. Gorgeous remote wilderness on the lower and upper trials. At the giant cairns, hiked straight up n/nw, wanted to explore more but was alone and wasnt confident I would find my entrypoint onto the summit, very sporadic blue trail markings on the south side, not ideal for a beginner hiker like me. Next time am going to leave earlier, and maybe go with gps backup and explore the summit more with some friends via north twilight trail. Definately a great bloodpumping hike. Great views from ledge on the twilight trail right before summit showing the hudson. A million things to see on this hike, leave very early in the AM. |
