Ascent Trip Report

Left Alamitos trailhead just after dawn. Unlike many access roads in Santa Fe National Forest, the road in was in good shape. There is a stream and decent campsites a few hundred yards in if you want to camp the night before ascent. Very gradual ascent first three miles or so- one string of switch backs but not too bad. When you reach the ridge , spectacular views every direction. When you reach ridge take Skyline Trail to right about .3 miles - Jicarita Peak is second peak you see - unnamed peak 7 ft lower must be passed. Toughest part was 200 ft scramble over endless small boulders to get to the summit but worth it. Saw elk on way down.
