Ascent Trip Report

After summitting Lincoln, we headed back over Truman and Lafayette to begin out descent down the Garfield Ridge and Skookumchuck Trails.

The GRT was rocky and rough in spots, with a few major PUDS, including the one over North Lafayette. Nice, but would be better in clear weather. After 0.8 mi, we headed down the Skookumchuck Trail.

The trail from here was mostly in the woods with an easy to moderate grade, although there was one notably steep section when descending to the brook bank. It was here where we ran into two college-aged kids who meant to head down Old Bridle Path to Lafayette Place, but missed the trail completely and ended up heading down Skook to its trailhead, several miles from their car. They had no rain jackets and were soaked to the bone after the 5.1 mile descent. Figuring they tortured themselves enough, I drove them to their car at Lafayette Place, and they were incredibly thankful. Made me feel good inside.

After that, I drove back to the southbound side of Lafayette Place, where me and Team Hike-NH had a cookout in the rain. Totally hit the spot after that cold, windy, and rainy hike. But it was all good, though, because the focus of this hike was to honor those who died in the 9/11 attacks.
