Ascent Trip Report

On 9/13/2014, I hiked Mount Lafayette with some Hike-NH.com members for Flags on the 48, and we also made a side trip to Mount Truman and Mount Lincoln; on the way down, we passed over North Lafaytette, bringing the peak total for the day to four.

The Greenleaf Trail was a very moderate trail for the most part, but there wasn't much of note (except for the wild Eagle Pass) until we got to the hut. Once we got there, we went inside for some rest and snacks, then made the 1.1 mile ascent to Lafayette's summit. As we climbed, the weather got steadily worse, with the nearby mountains quickly becoming engulfed in clouds. When we got to the top, there were great views for a whopping five minutes, then the clouds covered the summit, and would remain there the whole time we were on the ridge, with the exception of a few quick undercast views.

We spent a while putting the flag up, and thankfully it stayed up for the whole two hours despite the 40 MPH winds! After putting it up, myself and four others from the group made a side trip to Mount Lincoln, passing over Mt. Truman (North Lincoln) in doing so.
