About 1.5 miles SE of Meadowlark Lake, parked G6 along USFS Road No. 429, just off Hwy 16. Lupe followed USFS Road No. 429 S up past a section of forest to the open country NE of the old High Park Lookout tower. Continued on USFS Road No. 429 to the end where there is a small parking lot about 1.25 miles from Hwy 16. A short (15 minute) trail winds through the forest up to the now abandoned High Park Lookout tower. A sign at the tower says it is closed to visitors due to a broken support beam.

From dolomite rock outcroppings next to the lookout tower are nice views of Meadowlark Lake and a portion of the southern Bighorn Mountains. The highest part of the Bighorn Range is to the N. On this day there were low dark clouds obscuring the view of the highest peaks to the N, although the ones immediately to the N of Hwy 16 were still visible.

On the way back Lupe took the trail back down to the parking lot at the end of USFS Road No. 429, but instead of following the road back, she cut directly through the open country towards Hwy 16. She crossed USFS Road No. 433, which leads W to the High Park Ski Area. At the edge of the open ground was a pole fence and beyond it the small forested area. Lupe passed through both and found a small road which led to a chapel in the pines not too far from Hwy 16. She didn't look for the chapel, but continued on back to the G6.

Easy, short day hike perhaps 1.5 mile long one way. Could just as easily have driven to the end of USFS Road No. 429 where the High Park Lookout Tower is just a 15 minute walk up the trail, but Lupe needed to stretch her legs!
