Lupe reached King's Hill Pass on Hwy 89 SE of Great Falls, MT about 7:30 PM on her way back from vacation in the Canadian Rockies. Thankfully it was only 66 degrees F at King's Hill Pass after having been in the low 90's in Great Falls.
It was much drier here now than when Lupe was here on 7-16-14. Today there were only a few people at the King's Hill campground, which felt almost deserted. Lupe followed the dirt road from Hwy 89 all the way up to the lookout tower on top of Porphyry Peak. This time she even climbed up the lookout tower, but couldn't reach the observation deck as the hatch was locked shut. No one else was around. The views were pretty and serene, but seemed pretty tame after having just been to the Canadian Rockies. There was some haze in the air, possibly due to fires out W.
After visiting the Showdown ski lifts on the E side of the summit, Lupe headed down one of the ski trails taking a shortcut down the mountain back to the dirt road to Hwy 89.
