Ascent Trip ReportThe key to this one is to get to Back Bone Road. It is possible to get to this road from three different directions. I came in from the west on Lake City Road. This approach was on a dirt road, definitely passable by passenger cars. When you are on Back Bone Road from the west you will come to an intersection with Cruzon Grade Road coming in from the NW. This is your indicator that your are close. Follow the road east for a short distance until you come to a crest in the road. Park and the highpoint is the highground to the south of the road. The park owns that land and the land to the north is privately owned.
It is well worth the extra time to explore the old mining town of North Bloomfield. This mining area is rich in history and was the largest hydraulic mining operation in the country...which ultimately led to the demise of this type of mining, being as Marysville flooded twice.
