Ascent Trip ReportA drive-up on the public access road. Previous reports by other climbers said they had reached the summit via the private road because the gate at the beginning of this road was open. When I got there I checked the private road first, and of course, the gate was closed for me. This private road is about 1 mile south on Highway 139 where the road begins to climb out of Eagle Lake basin. Even if the gate was open, I don't think I would have used it because of "Keep Out" and "Private Property" signs posted on the fenceline. No problem. I drove 1.2 miles further south to the start of the public road which has a post labeled "Fredonyer". The dirt road to the summit is 9.4 miles long and bumpy and steep in spots. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended. Took me 29 minutes to drive to the top. The person manning the fire lookout was friendly and gave me a short tour of the lookout itself.
