Ascent Trip Report

Mt David rounds out 8 straight days of peakbagging, the first 7 days with Sam Hahn and today solo. I arrived at the trailhead before the sun hit it, so it was a bit cooler than I expected. I signed into the trail register, turned on the GPS and started up the trail. I knew that this hike was almost entirely on trail, so I figured that I would see how fast I could gain over 5,000 ft of elevation. I topped out exactly 2 hours and 45 minutes from the trailhead, pretty quick in my opinion. I lounged on the summit for an hour, thumbing through the register, taking the usual pictures, and enjoying a lunch. The views were impaired by the fires raging on the east side of the Cascades, causing the air to be filled with smoke. Pretty sad. I was still able to make out Rainier to the south, and obviously Glacier to the north. Del Campo and Sloan were visible to the west. On the descent, I ran into a solo hiker with a dog and a couple. Both seemed geared up to spend the night on top and the couple indicated that their plan was to sleep on top. As I descended, I moved about 10 logs off the trail for future hikers. All the logs I moved were smaller (i.e. I could move them solo). There are only a dozen or so logs on this trail as of right now and all but 1 can be easily hopped over or ducked under.
