Ascent of Flint Knob on 2014-07-28
|Date:||Monday, July 28, 2014|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||4240 ft / 1292 m|
Ascent Trip ReportAs far as I can determine, Flint Knob is tied with Eagle Mountain as the 15th highest named highpoint in Georgia, however, my GPS indicted an elevation of nearly 4260 feet on the summit of Flint Knob, so it likely holds the sole position for the 15th highest named highpoint in Georgia and Eagle Mountain is probably the 16th highest named highpoint. I approached Flint Knob from the east after an ascent of Rabun Bald. I was pleasantly surprised that a trail existed all the way from Rabun Bald, but it does deteriorate a bit after hiking over Flint Knob (east), the unnamed hill to the east that is actually about 160 feet higher. The highest point on Flint Knob seemed to be about 30 feet north of the trail and there is no view here due to the trees.
