Ascent of Granite Peak on 2014-08-04Date: | Monday, August 4, 2014 | Ascent Type: | Unsuccessful - Turned Back | Peak: | Granite Peak | Location: | USA-Montana | Elevation: | 10400 ft / 3169 m |
Ascent Trip ReportHiked up well cairned trail with Nick Broadhead to Lone Elk Lake, Rough Lake and Sky Top Lakes in the rain. Downpour ensued just after we made a hasty camp at Sky Top Lakes at 10400. Cloud ceiling dropped and stayed low until next morning. We awoke to threatening rain clouds and very low cloud ceiling. We decided to not attempt the summit due to weather. Unfortunate, because we planned this for 7 months. Still, seeing Sky Top Lakes is worth the hike and soggy conditions. Beautiful area. |
