Ascent Trip Report

Jun 28, 2014
Pillsbury Mtn
10:30 am
Gudrun and I started from the log landing, its about 1.2 miles short of the trail head, but our car doesn’t have much clearance and we like hiking anyway, so adding a bit of distance isn’t going to kill us! It’s a nice sunny morning, temps are supposed to get hotter than we like, but that is summer hiking!
We got to the Pillsbury mtn trailhead at 11:00am. There were lots of cars at the parking, but looks like there are several destinations that start from here.
We arrived at the summit at 12:00pm. The trail has some steady incline a the beginning, the last 400-500 meters is pretty level and easy hiking. There is lots of open space at the summit, but it is treed so there are no views from ground level. Seems like a place for parties as there is lots of fire pits and the fire wardens cabin (which still stands) is pretty well covered with graffiti and boarded up. The views from the tower were very nice, lots of ponds to be seen in the valley below. We took a short break for a snack, but the black flies this time of year are quite numerous so at 12:25pm we headed off the summit. We to the end of the trail at 1:20 pm and now we just had the easy walk down the road back to the car, which we reached at 1:40pm.
