Ascent Trip Report

We decided to sleep in the truck the night before since we didn't want to hike to Dollar Lake in the rain. We woke up a 3:30am to a beautiful star-filled sky and figured that was our cue. We left at 4am and made Dollar Lake by 7am. We missed the turn off to north of the lake and ended up working our way back to Dollar Lake from the south. The bushwack toward the ridge was wet and unpleasant. We worked our way up the obvious ridge south. From there it is a grassy slope with rocks and boulder hop to the top.
On the way down we stayed more north off of the summit and found it easier on the boulder hopping. Once we were descending the ridge toward Dollar Lake we aimed for north of the lake. It was much easier, used game trails and had virtually no bushwacking. We hiked northwest toward main trail and found a rock cairn that marks where to go towards Dollar Lake as you hike in.
On our way in and out we saw a moose each time. We also saw no less than 120 backpackers hiking in to climb King's Peak the following day. I have never seen anything like it. We were very happy with our decision to do it in a day and it took us 12 hours including stops and time at summit.
