Ascent Trip ReportThe drive up the logging roads was steep and complicated. Be sure to have the directions described here http://www.summitpost.org/tricouni-peak/489203 readily available. We had a 4x4 and needed it. Also the trail started to get very brushy near the end. Had we known the road better we would have pushed through the brush to the actual trail head which is unexpectedly spacious. The trail was very muddy until the area between the first and second lake. Several times I sunk in mud up to mid shins. After the lakes the hike was very good.
After the 3rd lake we took the gully up and to the left of the peak, but not all the way to the ridge. High in the gully we found an easy exit to the right and crossed a boulder field to a ridge we scrambled up. After the ridge we swung around front of the peak to the ridge to the right of the peak and followed it to the summit. |
