Ascent Trip ReportWithout trying, we climbed car to summit in 2 hours and 44 minutes. We were on our way home after a long trip of visiting family, rock climbing (City of Rocks; Emigrant and Butte, MT) and "Yellowstoning", etc. We had a spare tire on our old Subaru due to a flat, wanted to summit, but had to get to Ketchum to fix that flat before driving home to Seattle. After climbing Mt. Borah (RT in 164 minutes, not even trying to be fast, and enjoyed amble time on top), we made a big mistake on our route to Ketchum by taking the Trail Creek Road, driving on a spare. This road is a tire eater: sharp shale! At 20 miles in on a 40 mile road we flattened our spare! After a wait (less than an hour), a nice young couple that had been out motorbiking gladly helped us out, and they put our flat spare and flat tire in their truck and gave us a lift to Ketchum. In Ketchum we got our tires fixed at a tire store that clearly "pays it's rent" due to Trail Creek Road; but there we were, in Ketchum, with two repaired tires and no car. We had to get a lift 20 plus miles back to our car, abandoned on the side of that tire-eating beast! We had friends in Hailey, but did not their phone number with us. A Real-Estate agent walked into the auto shop, and when she heard us talking about not having a phone number, she asked, "Who are you trying to reach?". We told her our friend's name. She pulled out her Blackberry and said she had it, right there! She dialed up Claudia Gaeddert for us, and before we knew it, we were in Claudia's truck and on our way to our car! Claudia said she'd help us under these conditions: we had to stay for dinner, and spend the night! It was the Fourth of July afterall! Claudia drove us all the way back to our car, we got the tire on and spare squared away, and we all drove back to Hailey together. That evening we celebrated their daughter's birthday, played some badminton, went to "Hailey Days of the Old West" Fourth of July Rodeo, and we saw some fireworks! By the time we got to sleep, we had forgotten that we climbed Borah Peak that morning! (party of two: Milda Tautvydas and David Salinger)
