Ascent Trip ReportWith David Salinger. We climbed Primus 07/06/2010, Austera 07/06/2010, Dorado Needle 07/07/2010, Klawatti 07/08/2010 on this trip. Day 1 hiked up Elderado Creek and big storm came upon us. Set up camp below Eldorado's East Ridge in driving rain and sleet. Met Susan Ashlock and Gerhard, who were riding out the storm. Susan was practicing making a snow cave to fight off boredom. The following day our gear was soaking wet and the weather was still unstable with squalls, and there was poor visibility on the Inspiration Glacier. We stayed put and dried our gear out, waiting for the weather to clear. On 07/06 we moved camp to Klawatti Col, set up tent, then went on to climb Primus and Austera and returned to Klawatti col camp. We were happy to have our MSR mountaineering snowshoes. The snow was deep, soft, and isothermal. Without skis or snowshoes, we would have postholed deeply, and moving would have been very slow going. With the mountaineering snowshoes, we cruised around and made really good time. On 07/07 we climbed Dorado Needle from Klawatti col camp and returned to camp. It was a very hot day, so we climbed early and spent the rest of the day trying to stay cool in camp. We also met David Nicholson, who was on a solo ski traverse. He wanted to climb Klawatti too. So the next morning we climbed Klawatti together, in 35 minutes camp to summit. It was a quick ascent, considering we were camped at the base of the ascent route. We were on the summit at 6:30 AM!! We descended to camp, picked up our gear, and hiked out to the car at the Elderado Creek TH.
