|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||2163 ft / 659 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI originally planned this as a hike into Red Rock Canyon. I started down a trail and hiked for about a half mile before I reached a dead end on private property.
So, I turned and headed back to a road where I saw a sign for Calabasas Peak and decided to head up there. (For those who are interested, it turns out that Calabasas Peak and Red Rock Canyon start out on the same trail and branch off after about a mile.) Took me about an hour and a half to reach the summit and a half hour back down. The trail is really a wide fire road and the grade is not all that steep for most of the way; although, there are a few sections that should give your quads a bit of a workout. There are also some very interesting rock outcroppings along the way that practically beg you to climb out on them. Since I was alone, I restrained myself and enjoyed the view from the safety of the trail.
The last leg of the hike up to the summit moves off of the fireroad and onto a narrow path cutting through some underbrush.
