Ascent Trip Report

Disappointment Cleaver route, first attempt. 5hrs to Camp Muir. Started at 9:00, even when we got to Muir at 2:00PM (kind of late) there was only one other person in the hut and it didn't fill up (on a Sunday night). The guides got moving at midnight, most other people got moving shortly thereafter. We left at 12:40AM, summit at 8:00AM. Clear bootpath car to summit with tons of wands (don't bring wands on this route). On Ingraham there is a huge longitudinal crevasse on Ingraham and so the boot path goes way up and around it with a small ladder with a plank on the upper end (maybe 3ft). Above DC, one crevasse which is an unprotected step across, 2 with suspect snow bridges, and one which is large with an ugly snow bridge (this has pickets on each side for your rope team to clip in). Don't clip in to the fixed lines on the Cleaver, it's slower and these are only meant to be hand rails. If you start before the guides, the fixed line will not be set up. Summit register is not on the summit but just below on the scree hill trail above the crater. Coming down the DC at noon was terrible with slushy snow. If you know you might be slow, start earlier. Rested 1hr back at Camp Muir then back at cars at 4:20.
