Ascent Trip Report

Both of the peaks reported here can be nicely done in one day.

PIC CHAMPLAIN (2014-06-30) .... a moderate westbound climb to a superb lookout ...... 6km, 2h05 RT including stops.

We are on our drive home from our 9 day Gaspésie Trip, lots of time in the day to pay a visit to Parc National du Bic.
The summit of this mountain is the highest point of Parc National du Bic, located west of Rimouski. It is capped with CBC Communication Towers. The northeast/southwest ridge, on the shore of the Saint-Laurent River has a steep north face with dramatic cliffs, viewed up close from a super lookout platform with interpretive panels, just before the summit. A super destination.
Explorer Samuel de Champlain first named this mountain "Bic" during his first voyage of 1603, over time it has become Pic Champlain.
The park has a daily entry fee of 7.50$ per person.
I climbed the Sentier Les Murailles ("walls") starting at park road #1 .... the signed TH parking just north of the West Park Entrance (Secteur Cap-a-l'Orignal). It is a moderate, very popular, climb of 3km (only the last 100+ meters to the summit (after the lookout) is steep. It is moderate because I did it non-stop and without huffing and puffing, proof that it is moderate.
I was rewarded with a superb/up-close view of the walls and the coast line, with Mercier Cove down below.
The summit is capped with 3 huge/fenced-in CBC Communication Towers and a large Dish, surrounded by trees with very limited views. The natural HP is the rock surface outside the west fence line (48.32788,-68.83527). Attached to the northwest corner post of the fence is an orange "Repere Geodesique #19205". I looked-for/couldn't find the BM.

We drove home westbound on A20. We washed the van and picked up a Saint-Hubert chicken dinner before arriving at home at 17h30 hours. After dinner I had enough time to cut the high grass in sweltering heat ..... got 6 bags of clippings vs the usual 3. Somewhat fatigued.

MONTAGNE A MICHAUD (2017-07-10) .... trail with short wack , 6km, 1:30 hours RT.

This time I'm on my way home from a solo 7 Day trip to NB. See my Mont Val-d'Irene TR for all of today's activities.
I went to the same Park Entrance and paid the $8.50 entry fee.
From the signed Pic Champlain TH parking (above) continue on Rte #1 for 1.3km to a 4-way crossing, stayed straight on Rte #2 (Ferme Rioux) for another 1.3km to the large parking.
I found the signed TH on the north side of Maison Rioux and climbed 5.8km to the summit and beyond - on trails signed Le Chemin du-Nord(nb)/Le Scoggan(wb)/La Pinede(eb).
I arrived at the only sign on the summit at 3-way trail JCT in 35 minutes (Left points to North Lookout at 50M, straight is 500M to East Lookout). Both offer superb views at a wooden platform.
For the HP I went east 30M past the sign then wacked left (north) inside the woods 25M to my wooded spot (48.35987,-68.80872).
I descended from the 3-way trail JCT in 25 minutes.

I continued driving west on A20, overnighting in Levis.
