Ascent of Nest Peak on 2014-06-27Date: | Friday, June 27, 2014 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Nest Peak | Location: | USA-Alaska | Elevation: | 5030 ft / 1533 m |
Ascent Trip ReportI took the standard route up Nest. I think it took me around 2.5 hours moving at a fast pace. From the top I tried to take the ridge east over to Bird. The ridge was very steep and required a lot of scrambling. I would not attempt again. Instead I would backtrack to a very large scree field with a grassy strip in the middle heading down to the saddle valley between the peaks. Once down to the valley I hiked up to the 4800 point and took the ridge up to the main face and took a line up the middle to the summit of Bird. I was in thick clouds with low visibility most the time so there certainly could be better ways. |
