Ascent Trip ReportA moderately steep dirt road climb ...... 5km, 1h50 RT including all stops.
SURPRISE is what we got this morning after overnighting at the Camping Cote Surprise in the village of Perce. We locked ourselves out of the car, the service call for this stupidity cost us 50$ ..... luckily we were in town and not in the boondocks like the last few days.
From the center of the village of Perce, junction of #132/Rue de l'Eglise with the Post Office on the corner, we drove west on Rue de l'Eglise (road jogs right at church) for .6km to Rue Cap Barre. The TH is 50 Meters to the left .... gated dirt road (open) with a trail map, parking available. This was my TH however saw people drive up a good ways up the road.
I walked the dirt road 2.5km southerly to the summit (moderately steep) ..... topped with the "Statue of the Virgin Mary with Child on a large concrete base with stairs", wooden platform with numerous benches out front (presumably for a pilgrimage of sorts). My GPS at the Statue read 48.52070, 64.23433.
The ridge to the east (perhaps with higher ground) is very dense and not accessible.
The best views from up high are along the "Sentier de Falaise" (Belvedere 4 & 5) as it descends to the northeast ...... the Perce Rock dominates the view. This must be the best place to view the Perce area with its famous rock.
From here we went to climb Mont Blanc.
"I'VE BEEN A ROVER, I HAVE CLIMBED ALONE,
CLIMBED COUNTLESS MOUNTAINS, NEVER FINDING THE END
STILL I'M PRETTY HAPPY AND THE REASON YOU SEE,
ALL ALONG MY TRAILS LIFE HAS BEEN GOOD TO ME."
