Ascent Trip Report

This is a peak that someone can do if they are in the Crater Lake area and want to get a peak in, but are strapped for time. My total time up and down was 1 hr 20 min. I parked at the turn out on the west side of Crater Lake Hwy that has a sign for a snowmobile crossing and is the closest turnout to the peak. From the here, which route and ridge to take for maximum efficiency is fairly obvious. You cannot see the actual summit from the parking spot, it is to the west and can be seen going further south on Crater Lake Hwy.

Before this peak, I went up and down the 2.2 total miles of Cleetwood Trail in 25 min, 15 sec (Cleetwood Trail is the only access to Crater Lake). I was being timed for some kind of contest to see which Crater Lake employee can make it up down the fastest. I recommend going up and down Cleetwood Trail as part of a visit to Crater Lake.

The Park Service does not warn you about the mosquitoes that are prevalent here in June and July. I recommend bringing mosquito repellent so one is not eaten alive!
