Ascent Trip ReportLocated unpaved access road using previous trip reports. Spoke with homeowner at nearest house; that person doesn't own the land and said that the prominent NO TRESPASSING sign we noticed appears to be directed at those on motorized vehicles who want to use the property for joy riding. She said that although she could not authorize our use of the land that a quick walk in and out would not offend. She also pointed out that the high point is right on the edge of the gravel pits, and that as more material is removed it's likely that the materials that had made up the high point will have been transported to another part of the county!
We thanked her, then we parked at the access point and walked up the road between two fields of what appeared to be soy beans. A metal gate blocks access to cars and larger vehicled, but a well-worn path to the right of the gate is proof that dirt bikes and ATVs use this area all the time. Walking uphill past the gate the trees cleared and we saw a fairly large sand and gravel pit that looks like it's used all the time for bike/ATV riding. We walked almost directly across the pit and clambered up the steep, sandy, gravelly trail to the ridge at the north side. We walked the top of this narrow ridge to be sure we hit the highest point. Mission accomplished!
