Ascent of Star Peak on 2014-06-15
|Date:||Sunday, June 15, 2014|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||9836 ft / 2998 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThis ascent was made from the Buena Vista Valley side of the mountain through Star Canyon. Kevin Dinwiddie and I drove to the abandoned mining town of Star City and began the hike there. Walking the narrow road up to an old mine opening with a large visible tailings pile we began the arduous cross country trip to the top. Due to Kevin's excellent route finding skills, we made the summit in 4 hours.
This trip was an attempt to find an alternate route due to some reported "Posted" "No Trespassing" signs on the Interstate-80 access road. This alternate route will get you there but be prepared for some steep, cross country bushwhacking.
