Ascent Trip Report

The Mabel Hiking Club went up Yerba Canton today. Most turned around in less than an hour and a half (it had been billed as a short hike). Three of us continued to Lobo Peak. The trail crosses the stream many times and is not very steep for the first couple of miles, but quickly gets quite steep thereafter with some long stretches with over a 20% grade. On the way down we hit some heavy snow and lost the Manzanita Trail. I was glad I had my GPS to give me a heading back to the trail below the snow drifts. A nice fellow gave me a ride from the Manzanita TH to my car. Shortly thereafter I picked one of our other hikers who had missed his ride back to town.
