Ascent Trip ReportAn easy to steep trail, starting at south side ..... 2.8km, 1h05 hour RT.
This morning we drove up to the Saint-Sauveur/Val-David area of the Laurentiens for a weekend of hiking, outstanding weather. We found our way to the intersection of Hwy #117/Chemin de la Gare in the the village of Piedmont (Tim Hortons and Couche Tard on corner), where we turned south on de la Gare for a few hundred meters to a right turn on Rue Principale, then .7km west turned right onto Avenue Mont Molson which dead-ends at 250M. A large residential apartment Complex is to the left, this was my TH, the trail is straight ahead.
I walked west on the obvious trail (becomes a wide dirt track) with the vertical rock face of the mountain on the right. After a short distance the trail (now a dirt track) bends/climbs right to its crest (.6km) at the west side of the mountain, where it continues/descends north. At 100M an orange blazed trail leaves on the right (somewhat hidden, look-for-it) and climbs/winds steeply .5km southeast to a super lookout with campfire residue. Enjoy the views to the west cause they are the only ones offered by this hike, the top is all open deciduous woods.
50+M after the lookout the trail reaches a height-of-land, here I left the trail and bushwacked northeast 75M to the HP at a large erratic rock, open woods, easy going ..... GPS 45.90335,-74.15092. An interesting hike.
"FOR THESE ARE MY MOUNTAINS AND THIS IS MY GLEN
THE BRAES OF MY CHILDHOOD WILL KNOW ME AGAIN
NO LAND'S EVER CLAIMED ME THO' FAR I DID ROAM
FOR THESE ARE MY MOUNTAINS AND I'M GOING HOME."
