Ascent of Kern Peak on 2014-05-25
|Date:||Sunday, May 25, 2014|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||11480 ft / 3499 m|
Ascent Trip ReportAn overnight trip from Blackrock Trailhead. I clocked it at 29.3 miles with 6700' gain and 6700' loss. A lot of ups and downs. Some of the sections of the trails aren't real clear, but they aren't very hard to follow either and they are a lot nicer than those overly engineered trails like the John Muir Trail. I would suggest doing this hike early in the season before some of those wonderful water sources dry up. On May 25, 2014 I never had to carry more than 1/2 liter of water until I go to the last water source before the peak where I camped - about ten miles in at around 9,000' elevation. Very pretty meadows along the way - they must be truly beautiful if you catch them with a good wildflower show.
