Ascent Trip ReportAfter weather reports with rain likely along with a foggy morning, we set out to tackle this peak as a day hike from the basin cascade trail wondering if our gear would hold up to the likely rain. Soon discovered the bridge was out on Cascade Trail so relocated to Lafayette campground and took it from Lonesome Lake instead. Still the last bits of ice holding on high up on Fishing Jimmy trail, but nothing needing spikes. It was a long climb that included a member of the party who is Autistic and has motor planning issues, so slow going is the norm anyway. Left car at 9:15, got to top at 2:30, so decided to forgo the South peak today, as the boy with motor planning issues is slower going down than up. Arrived back to Lonesome Lake at 5:45, rested and got to parking at 8:15 PM. Views were spectacular today with Washington clearly visible just above Lafayette Lincoln Ridge line, comfortable temps in low 60s and practically no bugs yet. Perfect, just perfect. Only regret we didn't make this our first overnight backpacking trip with the kids.
