Ascent Trip ReportLeft Castelplanio at 7.30am, where I was visiting my parents. Arrived at Forca di Presta at just before 10, when two hikers where just starting their way up. I prepared and after 15 minutes started walking up the wide trail, never too steep. Amazing views of the Piani di Castelluccio, entirely covered with low clouds. I catched up the two hikers ahead of me around altitude 2000m, after some chitchat I discovered they were from a city near my hometown. We went up 100m or so when we encountered first patches of snow. They weren't sure about continuing, but I lead the way and crossed safely two easy patches of snow. We encountered a man coming down, he told us there was deep snow until Rifugio Zilioli then the ridge was free of snow until 2350m. My two companions decided to turn back, I continued. Shortly after rifugio Zilioli I catched up with another hiker, a man from Ascoli Piceno, and went up to the summit together. The cross was completely covered in snow so it wasn't visible. Fog was thickening so we didn't stay on the top a lot. We went down to an alternative route - the so called "Canale Mezzi Litri", very steep and slippery. We arrived at my companion's car, he was so kind to give me a lift to mine, still at Forca di Presta.
