Ascent Trip ReportLike many of our hikes, we weren't originally planning this ascent. I was scoping out the scenery at the Black Balsam trailhead; Rocko wanted to climb the Art Loeb Spur trail. Nest thing you know, we were heading for the peak of Black Balsam Knob.
Met a fellow on our ascent; he appeared to be in his late 50's and had no hiking gear.
As we got close, he called out, "Is this the way to the Emerald City? I'm looking for The Wizard. I have a grievance!"
Then he said that he had just been up on top, "burying my brother." It turns out that his brother wanted his ashes thrown off the highest peak around, and this guy thought that Black Balsam would do.
My own wife requested that her ashes be thrown from the peak of the Devil's Courthouse. We did that in October 2013.
