Ascent Trip Report

I followed Ken Jones' recommended route.
You need a permit to be on this one from the Flathead Tribe. See Ken's report. The permit is also per person, not per vehicle. I had to go back and purchase a second permit for my wife after reading the regulations. $17 each for a season (expires Feb) or $10 for a 3 day one.

This doesn't look like much on a map, but I highly recommend the peak. Great views with little effort, and a nice drive up. A lookout is on top, and a staircase up the rocks makes the approach rather easy. Park at the gate and walk up the road. Great views of the Mission range to the east.
Bring bear spray. We saw a good size black bear, brown in color on the drive down. We were also picking off ticks all the way back to Coeur d'Alene. I don't know how those things continue to show up after you are sure you've found them all.
