Ascent Trip ReportI used Chip Clark's TR once again, many thanks to the group for the good work. Even though Chip's TR will get you there, this report aims to update/add a few details only where necessary. We visited all of the 6 Areas
#2 .... Access to the HP is not as easy as it sounds "..... across the farm field and in the woods.". We parked at the corner of Skinners/Investment Roads. The narrow field is a fenced-in grazing land, so I walked/bushwacked around the outside of the field's west fence (some thorny brush) to the south side fence inside the woods. Chose my spot south of our parked van, near the field's south fence ... 38.68428,-76.61135.
#4 .... We went to 2 different spots.
The first one as per Chip. It was too early to knock on #7320 James Clyde Road, so we parked at #7340 (the high ground less than 100 yards to the south). I walked south on the road, scrambled up the steep embankment on the right, then across tall grass/brush to the summit, my spot at 38.67995,-76.61963.
The second spot is further east on Skinners Run Road at mailbox #930 (across from Bay Star Concrete). We drove south on the driveway 40 yards to the HP in front of the garage, 38.68158,-76.61803.
#5 .... The Mount Harmony Church has an East and a West Cemetery, so Chip's statement " ....., the edge of the cemetery to the east of the church is 193.2 feet." was not clear to us. Our check says that Chip was talking about the northeast edge of the East Cemetery and we would agree, our GPS here 38.69849,-76.60294.
We also checked out Chip's spot 1/4 mile to the east. Chose spot at 50 yards north of Harmony Road, opposite High Point Court, 38.69970,-76.59969.
#6 .... We drove north on Thornberry Court (immediately west of junction Harmony/#260 in Paris) 200 yards to the crest-of-the-road (on left is house #8620). My HP was to the right at the fence, 38.70354, 76.58654.
This was our last MD COHP of this trip, tomorrow (our 8th day), we will drive home. Unfortunately we did not complete our goal ...... we will have to come back after the harvest for Queen Annes COHP. The plan for today was to drive through Washington, visit Hamilton Mountain and Reno Reservoir, before driving as far north as possible, overnighting in PA.
"THERE NEVER WAS ANY HEART TRULY GREAT AND GENEROUS THAT WAS NOT ALSO TENDER AND COMPASSIONATE." .... head stone engraving in Mount Harmony, MD. United Methodist Church Cemetery.
