Ascent Trip ReportPerfect weather for a hike, and it's Mother's Day so hiking is always my first choice (unless it's 90°). 68°F, a bit windy--but not too much. Did the Sandstone Trailhead to Mishe Mokwe Trail (to Split Rock), to Backbone Trail, the side trail up to the peak, and back to the parking lot. Mishe Mokwe is my new favorite local trail--and Split Rock is great, perfect spot for lunch.
The trail downhill form Sandstone Peak to the parking lot is the hardest part. My calves and Achilles tendons will be hurting tomorrow!
Approx 5.99 mi round trip in 3:13 (timer paused for lunch). Endomondo had major issues tracking this hike, but their snap-to-road feature worked on the trails.
Lots of wildflowers and birds, even at 11am.
