Ascent Trip ReportMedicine Bow Peak / Medicine Bow Peak – West Ridge
Gudrun, Torsten and I started up the trail from Lewis Lake parking area on a somewhat chilly morning – but the skies are clear and looks like a great day for a hike.
Torsten and I reached the Medicine Bow Peak. The last stretch is quite a scramble but it was a lot of fun. We had the summit to our selves and had time to look for and find a geocache here on the summit. The views into the valley are fantastic this morning.
We left Medicine Bow Peak and headed for the County Highpoint of Carbon. This was a pretty easy walk but in places there was quite a bit of rock hopping involved. We got to the ‘high point’ which is really not a high point of the ridge or some kind of peak at all, it just happens to be a spot along the ridge that is the high point of Carbon County. The only thing of note was some old fencing in the area.
Left the high point and headed back toward Medicine Bow Peak. Reached the summit at 10:25 am started the descent and heading back to meet up with Gudrun who had stayed in the lower elevations.
There were several hikers heading up to the summit as we were coming down. Today was a great day to explore Medicine Bow Peak.
