Ascent Trip ReportStarted the trip from Cottonwood Campground Site 17 in Campground Loop B and followed DPS Route B. The Route B description says that once in the large canyon bear right at a gully at the 4200 foot level. If there is a gully at this level it is not obvious. I did bear right around the 4200 foot level and that section is doable, but there is a lot of loose rock. We continued up a ridge until we reach a saddle at 5040 feet. From the saddle the summit is visible, but good navigation and route selection is required. It's a great section of the hike...complete with a few low-growing trees. On the way back, at the 5040 saddle, we went down the canyon more to the right as we faced down. There was a single duck that led us to an on-and-off (mostly off) use-trail. This was a good way down.
