Ascent Trip ReportThis was the first of three peaks planned for the day (Corte Madera, Coulter Peak, & Los Pinos). We parked at the pullout just above the East end of the Espinosa Trail. We ascended via the Espinosa Trail until we reached the saddle. There was a lot of poison oak along the initial trail; some of it hanging down to head level. At the saddle, we headed north up a dirt road. Not too far you will come across a birds of prey signage which is the trailhead to Corte Madera. The trail is easy to follow; until you are near the end. There are several side trails that head down to private property. Just follow the ducked trail on the return. I recommend using trekking poles as there are many sections that require extra care with footing. This is mainly due to erosion and/or steep sections. There are several bumps to traverse on the ascent (& descent). Watch for birds of prey. We saw several riding the thermals/winds above us. On the return we did a side trip to the top of Coulter Peak (see other trip report). We returned the same route until we reached the saddle where the Espinosa Trail crosses. We then started the Los Pinos climb (see other trip report). Carried 3 liters of water for the entire day; consumed just over a liter for this section. |
