Ascent Trip ReportWhile this was a successful attempt at Bear Den Mountain I consider it a failed attempt at Dial & Nippletop because that was our intention. However upon arriving in the Adirondacks we realized there was still a good amount of snow on the ground. We decided to make the attempt anyway. We hiked from the St. Hubberts parking lot to the golf course which we took to Lake road with no trouble. Once we took the trail up toward Nippletop & Dial we had to find large sticks to use as walking sticks. If we had not found the sticks we would not have been able to proceed. Due to the snow and not having snow shoes we were moving very slowly only allowing us to summit Bear Den Mountain. we hiked back from Bear Den for about a mile before deciding to set up camp for the night. It rained from around 9pm to 8am the next morning. After the rain let up we packed up camp and began our hike back to the car. |
