Ascent Trip ReportWe reached Red Rock Summit at around 6pm and started hiking the trail up and over the limestone and down onto the sandstone. We were trying to reach the hidden forest before dark but the last 30 minutes required headlamps. The scrambling was a bit sketchy in the dark with heavy packs but we had no issues. We passed under the arch and then up the ramp where we could finally see the forest below. We dropped into the forest and camped here for the night. This was an amazing place, surrounded by massive walls on all sides. We set up camp, ate dinner and then went to sleep.
The next morning we left our packs at the saddle above the forest and climbed the short distance to the summit. This entire area was more incredible than I remembered. We could see hikers making their way along the sandstone far below and it made me feel very small. |
